On Sunday mornings I generally listen to a  mix of Praise and Worship or if I feel really energetic I will listen to the Brooklyn Tabernacle choir. with the blinds still closed I will sing and dance along. This morning I was missing the mountains of beautiful east TN, so I selected a playlist I entitled “Sunday Go to Meeting and Dinner on the Ground”. It has a collection of the Issac’s, The Crab Family, some Gathier Vocal Band. and a few other “good ole sangers”.

I was listening and doing my morning chores when all of a sudden I had the most amazing…

Whew… things are busy!

It has been a hectic few months. But we are so excited to see God at work and to be right in the middle of it all! Here is a brief recap of what all has been happening:

  • Avis has left for an extended stay in the US and Canada. Her book “Out of the Dust: The Story of an Unlikely Missionary” is in the final editing stages before the October release date. Avis will be speaking and sharing all across the US and Canada. She will be sharing her story of God’s Grace  and introducing people to her book. We sure miss her presence here but we can already see God at work in this new phase of ministry!                                                      Out of the Dust (Cover Wrap)
  • Go Ye Ministries is now part of the SMILE Amazon program. If you will go to Smile Amazon and select Go Ye Ministries Prairie Grove AK as your charity of choice, Amazon will give us a % of all you buy! It doesn’t cost you anything and you will be supporting us in yet another way! You can pre-order your copy of Out of the Dust!                              Amazon Smile
  • Our much anticipated Speed Queen washers have arrived. we are working through a few installation glitches, but hope to have then up and running soon. Some of the girl’s just couldn’t wait to check them out! We are so thankful for the incredible VBS kids who raised the money for the washers!                                                                                               IMG_0734
  • Our secretary Juana has introduced us to an new area of service and ministry. She took Jake, Maggie and Tammy to visit a sheltered workshop for disabled adults. The program is called Youth without Boundaries. Our visit was great. Jake and Maggie saw a need and provided a 2 burner propane stove for the center to use in cooking classes. Tammy will be volunteering one day a week. It is so awesome to see God increasing our ministry borders and opening doors into the community for us!                                                                                                                                                  Youth without Boundaries
  • Casa de Paz has had a baby explosion! We have 3 new Casa Girls to love and nurture. One of our babies is in the process of being adopted by her new forever parents. We are blessed that her soon to be mom has a heart for Casa de Paz and is volunteering with all our kids. Be in prayer for the other two little ones.
  • We have been blessed with volunteers! We are so appreciative of folks who take the time to come and serve here! There is always a project to be done, a task to be completed or a child to love on. We are excited to see who will be the next volunteer!
  • Creating Hope has hired our first employee! It is so awesome to see Ysabel training this new worker. We have been able to use our profits to buy new material and to update the workroom. The Creating Hope staff is currently working on a new Fall & Winter line for our web store, as well as filling a consignment order for a shop in the nearby beach town of Huanchacho! Check out to see our latest creations!

As you can see we stay busy here! We are so thankful to be right smack dab in the center of what God is doing in Pacasmayo Peru!

Go Ye is CREATING HOPE in Peru!

Creating Hope

She makes linens and garments and sells them, and supplies the
merchants with sashes. She is clothed with strength and dignity;
She can laugh at the days to come
Proverbs 31: 24-25

We are pleased to announce that our women’s ministry has launched a new business! God has blessed each person with unique gifts, talents and abilities. We are excited that our women have formed a sewing business called Creating Hope. This endeavor allows the women to design and make clothing, accessories and home furnishings. They are true Proverbs 31 ladies!

Their handmade creations are available on our new web store called Creating Hope. You can find the store at

Not only does this business allow the women to use their God given gifts and talents, it is also a way to help provide a sustainable income for  them and their families. As the store grows and develops we will be adding new products and designs.

Our prayer is that as we help the women of La Palmera provide for their families that they will come to understand that God is their true provision.

Hope you will visit our site! Create Hope where ever you are!

Love in Action

Dear Children we must show love through action that is sincere not just empty words.

1 John 3:18 (God’s Word translation)

Casa de Paz had the privilege of seeing love in action over the past few weeks. We had a group of young women with us, whose joy for the Lord seeped into every corner of the compound! Alyssa, Courtney,Logan and Samantha put a lot of sweat and manual labor into expressing their Christ like love to the children and staff!

Not only did they invest their time and love into the lives of the children they completed two major task.  As full time staff there never seems to be enough hours in the day to get everything off the “To Do List”, so when willing and energetic volunteers come it truly is a blessing. When those volunteers accept the task with a willing heart and a smile it is even more wonderful.

During their time with us, “The Girls” updated our playground equipment with a vibrant new coat of paint. It is a cheery sight that can be seen from any vantage point at Casa de Paz. When you add in several of our excited kids you have a winning combination.

The Girls: Samantha, Alissa, Courtney and Logan

The  Bodacious Bodega is the task “The Girls” tackled that will have the biggest impact. A bodega is a small store or storage room. Our bodega was in woeful need of a little TLC! Alyssa, Courtney, Logan and Samantha jumped in and tackled mounds of donated clothes, blankets, shoes and anything else that had been crammed into this space for safe keeping.

Bodega 2
The Bodega before the makeover.

Hours were spent washing and organizing clothes. This was no small feat as we are still waiting on the delivery of our commercial washer. Many nights “The Girls” would stay up and wash so the one small washer we have would be free for the house moms during the day. Once the clothes were cleaned they were sorted into boys vs. girls clothing, then sizes and style of clothing.  All this was cataloged so a spread sheet could be created. This will let us know what we have on hand. Not only will our Casa Kids benefit but many of the people in our community will benefit as well. A large clothing give away is being planned for the families who live in the surrounding dump. Warm clothes and blankets will be greatly appreciated during this chilly time of year.

The entire room was swept, mopped and  put into proper order. Most impressive was that anytime you passed by the bodega you would hear singing or laughing as “The Girls” joyfully served not only Casa de Paz but the Lord. A true example of 1 John 3:18 being lived out for us all .

We truly are thankful for individuals and groups who take the time to volunteer at Casa de Paz. If you would like more information about volunteering or bringing a mission team to serve, please see our Volunteer page for more information or contact us. We would love to have you!

When the well goes dry…

Steps on the Journey

You don’t really appreciate something until it isn’t available; IE: water! We are going into day number 2 without running water. We got a new pump for the cistern and it is taking a little bit to get everything in sync.Since the water level was already low this was a good time to clean the cistern as well. Jake is doing an awesome job it getting us back on tap!

You don’t realize how much water is integrated into everything you do all day. There is the obvious bathing, brushing teeth, flushing, doing dishes.I didn’t realize how many times a day I wash my hands. Must be a nurse thing!  It is obvious we need water for more than drinking.

My kitchen is piled with two days of dirty dishes. You try to scrap them  but there is still food drying and caking on the dishes. Fast food is not…

Hail to the Chief!!

During the past year many exciting things have been happening with Go Ye Ministries and Casa de Paz! In preparation of the publication of her book, Avis knew she needed to make some changes. The release of the book will require Avis to be away for extended periods speaking and publicizing the book and our ministry. As amazing as Avis is even she cant be in two places at once1

After prayerful consideration Jake Hiebert is the new President of Go Ye Ministries. Avis is still very active in the ministry and is now Vice President. The day to day handling of operations has been turned over to Jake. So far he is doing an awesome job leading us all through this transition time. We really feel God’s anointing and blessing.

Jake and his family- wife Maggie and children Carletia, Mateo and youngest Talliha moved to Peru 1 1/2 years ago. They followed God’s  call to come and serve Him here by loving the children and people of Peru. It is awesome to watch God bless and grow this family as they follow His servant example.

It’s a bird… It’s a plane… It’s a book!

We have a book! For several years now, Avis has been working on a book. The book tells the first part of her missionary journey- The story continues with the events that lead to Go Ye Ministries being founded. The book also includes the exciting journey that brought Casa De Paz from a dream to a thriving orphanage. We are so excited that, after years of work, God is making this dream a reality! We pray the book is ready by the end of 2014. In preparation of the book being available, Avis is making plans to tour the US, Canada, Peru and Honduras. Stay tuned for more details!
